100 Thieves is an American organization created in 2016 by a former Call of Duty player, Matthew «Nadeshot» Haag. He also happens to be a popular YouTuber who currently has nearly 3 million subscriptions. His activity is supported by the Cleveland Cavaliers, so he can afford such huge transfers.
The current squad gathered in October, however, they did not compete in tournaments because Henrique «HEN1» Teles, Lucas «LUCAS1» Teles, and Lincoln «fnx» Lau had existing contracts with Immortals. The organization removed the players from official matches after being late for a duel against North at the DreamHack Montreal 2017. They overslept the match because they spent the night before the game in a nightclub. The Teles brothers soon announced that they would leave Immortals and collect a new staff. However, other organizations did not buy the Brazilians’ contracts for a long time. According to rumors, Immortals asked for up to a million dollars for the three players.
The team includes the former member of Immortals; LUCAS1, HEN1, and fnx, as well as Vito «kNg» Giuseppe and Bruno «bit» Lima, a veteran of the Counter-Strike 1.6. The new five-player project began in October this year.
In a video posted on YouTube, Matthew «Nadeshot» Haag, the team’s founder, says the organization is aware of the controversies surrounding kNg, LUCAS1, and HEN1. They also are aware of the problems that took place in the final of DreamHack Montreal 2017. Regardless, the founder of the team believes that this action should not define the players’ career.
The price for which 100 Thieves has acquired the team is still unknown. But what is clear is that Nadeshot’s organization has become a force to be taken into account within the CS:GO scene.
The team will participate in the ELEAGUE Major 2018 as LUCAS1, HEN1, and kNg won the status of «legends» on PGL Major Kraków 2017. Thus, saving the slot for the next major. It is worth noting that this status is assigned to the players, not to the organization.
The team, struggling to find opponents at their level in the native country of the players, is currently in Poland to bootcamp against the best European teams. They are preparing themselves for the ELEAGUE Major 2018 which will be held from 19 to 28 January. The prize fund of the championship will be 1 million dollars.
