Home I Featured Articles I Tennis Betting Markets
Before starting to place your bets, it’s important to know the different tennis betting markets offered by the bookmakers. We introduce you to the most common betting markets available on tennis and their specific features.
This is clearly the most popular market. Not only in tennis but in all sports. It is especially popular in markets where the payouts offered by the bookmakers are usually higher, as well as their liquidity.
When betting on this market, it’s very important to know your bookmaker’s retirement rules. Some validate your bet after just one point played, others require one set to be played, while others will only settle your bet once the match is finished.
Tennis matches have two different amounts of maximum sets. On WTA (women’s tour) they are always played in best-of-3 sets. While on ATP (men’s tour), they can be played in best-of-3 or best-of-5 sets.
We can choose between two Set Handicaps, the -1.5/+1.5 and the -2.5/+2.5. The first can be found in every game whereas the second is only available in the best-of-5 matches. Before choosing your bookmaker, it’s important to keep in mind that some of them don’t provide the -1.5/+1.5 on best-of-5 sets, while others don’t offer the -2.5/+2.5 Set Handicap on those matches.
This is another handicap presented by the bookmakers but instead of betting on sets, you’ll be betting on games. The offered line differs from match to match and you can bet on a negative or positive game handicap.
This is one of the trickiest markets in the industry, because is possible for a player to cover a negative handicap and still lose the match, or for the underdog to win the match but without covering the positive game handicap.
This is a good example of a match where the favorite (Player 1) covers his handicap but loses the match, showing how tricky this market can be.
As it happens with the Game Handicap, the offered line on the Over / Under also varies from match to match. This is a very simple market, where you can bet on the Over if you are expecting a closer match than the suggested line or on the other hand, you can bet on the Under if you predict the opposite.
Besides the possibility of betting on the total number of games, which is a market available in every bookmaker that covers tennis, it’s also possible to bet on the total number of sets. If we are talking about a best-of-3 match, the offered line is always the Over / Under 2.5 Sets, while on the best-of-5 matches, is possible to bet on the Over / Under 3.5 Sets and Over / Under 4.5 Sets.
In this article, we’ll take a look at the highest value players in the first round of next week's tournaments. With the Asian swing taking place, Beijing hosts a combined ATP-WTA event. On the other side, only the men will play this week in Tokyo.
