Dota 2 is insanely popular! Due to the massive success of the biggest event — International, more and more new players want to play at the competitive level. We gathered some pretty important tips for you, that can make you a stronger player. Check our Dota 2 Guide in the following lines!
First of all, you need to determine the kind of heroes will win the game for you. The kind of draft that a team should go for varies from one game to another. If you’re playing Captain’s Mode, then obviously you have to collaborate with your team’s captain to pick strong and reliable line-up.
If you want to end the game faster, maybe before the 20-25 minutes mark, then Nature’s Prophet, Beastmaster, Drow Ranger, Invoker, and Witch Doctor would be a powerful line-up to win the game. But this kind of pick heavily relies on the experience of the heroes on the team. For example: if the opponent team manages to grab Invoker and Beastmaster in the mid and offlane, respectively, then the dream of ending the game before 25-minute mark becomes impossible because that kind of line-up was made for the early game push.
On the other hand, if these heroes gain a certain amount of experience and farm, then it becomes very easy to snowball over the enemy’s base.
The next type of draft consists of Global strategies like Spectre, Zeus, Nature’s Prophet, Silencer, and Ancient Apparition. This kind of line-up also requires experience as well as a farm on their cores. But once they get their core items, it becomes tough for the opponents to team fight against them. The only drawback of this line-up is that if somehow the enemy team sneaks out and kills the position four and five supports, then it becomes a little bit hard to overcome the opponent team.
The next type of line-up consists of a team fights control orientation. This line-up can include Tidehunter, Phoenix, Invoker, Enigma, and Sven. This kind of line-up only needs proper initiation and one level in the ultimate to destroy the opponent’s line-up. But there is a huge drawback of this line-up which is the cooldown duration of each hero’s ultimate. One wrong initiation by this kind of line-up will result in self-destruction. Actually, in DotA 2, there are several events which can make you win or lose in the game. In my gaming career, I’ve observed that most of the losses are the result of losing hope in the match and the lack of the ability to make a huge comeback in the game. This kind of responses often creates a negative impact on the team. Hence, they sit down in the fountain doing absolutely nothing. I’ve won games with all three sides mega, and we didn’t even destroy one single tower of the opponent. But with the hope of the comeback and the ability to trust your teammates often turns the tables in your favor.
In the case of winning the game, you just need to collaborate with your teammates by listening to them. If they want you to gather around with them, then you should go immediately without farming or killing anything. Moreover, as a support, it is your duty to create as much space as you can for your team. You can either gank the opponent team’s mid-laner, offlaner, or even hard carry. But it also depends on your hero pick.
If you’ve picked a roaming hero like Bounty Hunter, Earthshaker, Earth Spirit, etc., then ganking the opponent’s cores in the starting phase of the game will create a lot of space for your cores. But if you’re playing a defensive support like Omniknight, Abaddon, Oracle, etc. then you should probably gank your lane or stack the neutral creeps for your cores. If you do this the right way, then the chances of winning the game increase massively.
Just like regular MOBA games, DotA 2 emphasizes more on team play matchups rather than single matchmaking. The reason is that every player has to collaborate with his/her teammates to perfectly wipe out the opponent team from the map.
A great team normally consists of those players who may have not enough individual skills, but when it comes to utilizing the coordination correctly, then they are best at it.
However, players can win the games by their individual skill level and experience in the competitive matchmaking environment. One of the similarities in solo play and team play is that you have to play mind games against your opponent.
The gameplay of DotA 2 not only relies on the type of heroes, but also on how you utilize it in the team fights or 1v1 matchup.
At any stage of the game, you’ll encounter several moments which may turn the tables around, either on your side or the opponent team. If you have a particular pattern in your mind and can successfully implement that in the game, then the satisfaction of that victory would be unmatchable.
