After making The International 7 pretty much their playground, it’s quite surprising to see both LGD squads struggling against other DotA 2 teams in China to start the season. Maybe that’s just the reality of how stacked the competition is in the region.
Really, who would have thought the likes of Keen Gaming and VGJ. Thunder would qualify to a LAN tournament before both LGD squads this season?
So far, LGD Gaming and LFY only have three LAN appearances between them this season. This is not what you’d expect from two teams who finished in the top four in TI7.
With qualifier tournaments for the first two months of the Pro Circuit already over, LGD Gaming and LGD.Forever Young have a lot of ground to cover. If both of them plan on racking up qualifying points early for The International 2018, they will have to perform well in the upcoming tournaments.
LGD.Forever Young has only had 6 points from 4 games played which leaves them at 5th place, having drawn 2 and won 2. They won against CDEC and VG and had draws against VGJ.T and Newbee.
They were ranked 3rd at TI, runner-ups at the Mars DotA 2 League 2017, and were 3rd at the EPICENTER 2017.
IG.Vitality is one of the top names in China. The sister squad to Invictus Gaming, they epitomize the new age formula for Chinese teams, combining up-and-coming talents with players possessing a fair amount of experience. They eschew the stubbornness of old and substitute it with what works nowadays. For the most part, it’s been working for them, however, significant results have eluded them so far.
IG.Vitality strikes a great balance in skill and experience. They have the services of young core Xu «Sakata» Zichen, who is great at flash farming. In the back they have the supporting duo composed of Su «super» Peng (not to be confused with the LFY player of the same name) and Gao «dogf1ghts» Tianpeng. Dogf1ghts, in particular, plays a frightening Bounty Hunter and he sports a 66 percent win rate with the hero over 68 career games.
The team is struggling to find its place in the DotA 2 Professional League Season 4. They have only one win, three draws, and three losses on the scorecard and currently sit at 7th place.
Judging by the inconsistent performances of the teams, a win for LFY is likely on the cards.
2-0 LFY
LGD.FY 0.20 – 3.5 iG.Vitality
LGD Gaming was the first to leave the Chinese qualifiers of the DreamLeague. During the qualifying stages, the team first lost to LGD Forever Young and then lost to Vici Gaming in the lower bracket.
In the PGL Open Bucharest, LGD Gaming fought Mineski. The Chinese team had not lost a single series in the course of the tournament. In contrast to the Asian competition, LGD Gaming did not enter in full strength. Chen «Victoria» Guanhong was unable to participate due to illness and was replaced by Yao «QQQ» Yi before the tournament. Mineski took an early lead in both games and played the advantage safely. LGD finished at second place.
In the 2017 DotA 2 Professional League Season 4, they are 4th place with 3 wins, 1 draw, and 1 loss. They won against iG.V, Team Max, and CDEC while losing only to VG so far.
Let’s have a look at the three most consistent players of iG:
Ou «Op» Peng is a talented eSports pro that is currently part of Invictus Gaming. His role within the squad is that of solo-middle with his top heroes Death Prophet, Dragon Knight, and Invoker. Op started out his career in professional gaming in 2016 with the team iG.Vitality within the Invictus Gaming Company.
Lin «Xxs» Jing is a Chinese cyber athlete competing for Invictus Gaming, taking over the role of offlaner. He has previously played with Team DK and moved on to compete for iG.Vitality, where he gained the experience and skills to play DotA. He leads his team to victory with heroes like Tusk, Night Stalker, and Pheonix.
Ye «BoBoKa» Zhibiao is a dedicated professional player in the role of support for the Invictus Gaming roster. BoBoKa’s highest achievement so far was when he played at the National Electronic Arena 2016, competing for Invictus Gaming. His skills in the DotA 2 game are brought about with his signature characters Earth Spirit, Rubick, and Vengeful Spirit.
The trio is struggling in the 2017 DotA 2 Professional League Season 4. They are in 6th place with 5 points from 2 wins, 1 draw, and 2 losses. They had a winning start as they defeated CDEC and VGJ.Thunder, however, ever since they drew against Vici Gaming, they are winless in their last two games.
LGD will likely take the advantage of the struggling opposition and will look for the redemption for the loss against Mineski.
2-0 LGD
LGD Gaming 0.30 – 2.5 Invictus Gaming
