Home I Events & Reviews I Payment Options I How to Increase your eWallet Security
eWallets have become more and more popular and are a necessary tool for all sports bettors, online poker players, casino players and any other gaming related business. Due to the popularity they also became a very attractive target for hackers. Customers keep large amounts of money in their accounts and most customers are not even aware of the risks involved. And yet, it is really simple to increase the security and make sure your money is safe.
So, let us have a look at the offered security features of the major eWallet providers NETELLER, ecoPayz, and Skrill.
NETELLER, ecoPayz, and Skrill make it really easy to increase the security of your accounts. All of them offer an enhanced security feature called Two-Step Authentication. Two-Step Authentication (also known as «2FA»), adds an extra layer of security through “multi factor authentication” that requires not only a password and username but also something that each user needs to enter individually– in most cases this is a one time login code generated by a physical token or an App.
You can set up the Two-Step Authentication within 5 minutes with any mobile device (Smartphone or Tablet). Your app will generate a new code every 30 seconds and you can use every code only one time. This option highly improves the security of your accounts and keeps your funds safe.
To activate the Two-Step Authentication, simply sign in to your ecoPayz, NETELLER, or Skrill account and open the security options in your account to activate the Two-Step-Authentication.
Once you have activated the eWallet security feature in your account, you now have to make sure to install the App on your smartphone or tablet. All security features will work with the free app Google Authenticator or Authy.
Whenever you sign into one of your accounts or make a payment on a merchant site, you will now be asked for the Two-Step Authentication code and you will enjoy an even higher level of security.
By activating the 2FA you have drastically increased your eWallet security already. However, you also have to make sure to choose safe passwords and keep them as safe as possible. Not only the passwords for your eWallets, but also the passwords at your bookmakers as well. Regularly changing your password once a month is a vital part of your online security while trying to avoid passwords that are easy to guess. If you use passwords like «Mike123» or «sports2016» then you are asking for trouble and you will increase the risk that someone gets access to your account.
Make sure your password has at least 10 (the more the better) alphanumeric characters, including special characters. It is also very important not use the same password for all your accounts. Using a different one for each of them highly increases the security, but it is also impossible to remember all your passwords. Tools like «Keepass» or «LastPass» can do this job for you. You can store all your passwords in one container and secure them with a master password. It should go without saying that this master password has to be extra secure, so make sure to use enough characters and special characters.
Besides the in-house features and a secure password, you should also make sure your computer, internet browsers, and anti-virus software is up to date. Don’t open any email attachment from unknown senders and consider using different email addresses for your accounts. This makes it harder for attackers to get access to all your accounts with hacking just one mail account.
You should also be careful with links you received through Skype (or any other messenger) and do not leave your computer in the hands of someone you do not trust.
As you can see, there is a lot you can do to protect your computer and your eWallets. It might take some time to set up all those things, but it is definitely worth it. Following all these steps will highly increase your security level and your funds will be as safe as possible.
