VGJ.Thunder maintained good results during the Galaxy Battles II: Emerging Worlds tournament, beating Infamous and Team Spirit by 2-0 and 2-1, respectively.
When VGJ.Thunder reached the final of the winner’s bracket, they were defeated by Evil Geniuses 2-0. So, they were forced to play in the final of the losers’ bracket, where they beat Team Spirit again, 1-0 this time.
The grand final was like a rematch in the best-of-three final bracket in which Evil Geniuses beat VGJ.Thunder 2:0. However, in the end, VGJ.Thunder had the last laugh.
VGJ.Thunder successfully avenged the defeat of the North American team, which got them knocked into the lower bracket.
The first match of the grand final was quite easy for VGJ.Thunder. However, Evil Geniuses gave a very fierce resistance in the second match, lasting more than an hour.
One of the highlights of the second game was demonstrated by Evil Geniuses. The new offlaner of the team, Syed Sumail «SumaiL» Hassan, showed how to play Faceless Void like a boss. He landed an incredible Chronosphere during a massive comeback. However, VGJ. Thunder maintained their aggression and took the game into their hands in a strong fashion.
He died. And waited. And waited. And then Chrono’d. A panicked couple minutes from both teams leads to another tense pause. Every cooldown matters. Every buyback is crucial. pic.twitter.com/qiMYRoy6Nc — Evil Geniuses (@EvilGeniuses) 21. Januar 2018

Other teams participating in Galaxy Battles II: Emerging Worlds include: OG, paiN Gaming, Team Spirit, Infamous, PG Barracx wild card winners, and the home team of TNC Pro Team. The championship was held in the province of Bulakan (Republic of the Philippines).
The host of the competition, TNC, faced defeat in the early upper bracket match against Spirit. After the defeat, the side won the meeting against Infamous in the lower bracket. TNC eventually surrendered to OG in the semi-final lower bracket.
The Indonesian representative, PG.Barracx, was knocked out after two consecutive defeats. One against the runner-ups EG in the first game of the upper bracket with a score of 2-0, with the second against paiN Gaming with a score of 1-0 in the first-round lower bracket.
Recently, the tournament was disqualified as a Major, since, according to Valve, the new Philippine government regulations for the entry of pro players in the country unnecessarily violate player’s privacy. This includes running toxicological tests for tracing narcotics in the participants.
Without Major status, seven big teams decided to abandon the tournament: Virtus.Pro, OpTic Gaming, Mineski, Team Liquid, Newbee, LGD.Forever Young, and Team Secret.
